Double Ka Meetha is a popular Indian dessert from Hyderabad. It is made with bread, milk, sugar, and flavored with cardamom and saffron. Here's a recipe to make Double Ka Meetha:
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of white bread, preferably a day old
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron strands
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds and pistachios
- 1 tablespoon raisins
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Trim the edges of the bread slices and cut them into small squares or triangles.
Heat ghee in a frying pan and fry the bread slices until they turn golden brown. Remove and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
In a large pot, bring milk to a boil. Add sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands. Stir well until the sugar dissolves.
Add the fried bread slices to the milk mixture and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the bread soaks up the milk and becomes soft.
Turn off the heat and let it cool down a bit.
Grease a baking dish with ghee and transfer the bread and milk mixture to it.
Top with chopped almonds, pistachios, and raisins.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes until the top becomes golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let it cool down a bit before serving.
Double Ka Meetha is typically served warm or at room temperature. You can also serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
Enjoy your delicious dessert!
